Ardent advocate for Working Families, Sustainable Energy, the Environment, and Responsible Economic Development
Ricardo "Rick" Reyes is a Marine Corps Infantry veteran who served eight years with deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. Raised in Southeast Los Angeles as a first generation Mexican-American, Rick understands the importance of fair access to economic opportunity. With a commitment to service, Rick remains engaged in his community as the Veterans Caucus Chairman for the California Democratic Party, Governor Jerry Brown's appointee to the California Mexican American Veterans Memorial Beautification and Enhancement Committee, an elected DSCC & DCCC Delegate in the 63rd Assembly District, and elected DNC delegate in the 44th Congressional District. He is Founder and past President of the Veterans Democratic Club of Los Angeles County, California State Captain of VoteVets.org, and of member Truman National Security Project's Defense Council.
As a decorated combat veteran who experienced firsthand the effects of war, Rick developed an interest in working toward improving US Foreign Policy and has worked nationally on issues of National Security, Energy, and International Development.
Post military service, Rick participated on a panel for the Congressional Progressive Caucus' Afghanistan Series, was part of an outreach mission to Afghanistan and traveled to Japan to meet with members of Japan's government and Foreign Relations Committee regarding Japan's role in US Foreign Policy. In 2009, Rick traveled to Washington D.C. to speak before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee chaired by Senator John Kerry. He also met with State Department and White House officials, and continues to work with Congress on national security and veterans issues. Rick has been a speaker at several national and local events and has been interviewed by CNN, MSNBC, local news stations, and has been a featured guest in The Nation and The Hill.
Locally, as a mortgage loan officer, Rick has worked tirelessly at ensuring homeowners received quality service with home purchases and refinancing. During the mortgage collapse, Rick donated time and resources to help hundreds of families who were at risk of losing their homes to foreclosure. Today, Rick continues to consult families through similar hardships pro-bono.
Currently, Rick is a Political Coordinator for the largest labor advocacy organization in California, SEIU United Long Term Care Workers (ULTCW). In that capacity, Rick is dedicated to providing and protecting quality care for some of California's most vulnerable residents. Rick is also a business owner in the growing industry of clean energy and is focused on bringing quality jobs to the community.
